How Understanding Career Coaching Can Help Your Practice
As a professional coach, it is likely that your work sometimes touches on your clients' careers, even if indirectly. This is more common now than ever, given the serious, ongoing challenges in today's job market and economy. Sometimes, your client's career is the primary issue blocking progress - as opposed to the other facets of his or her life. This is when your relationship needs to shift, to focus specifically on career coaching.
At this juncture, most coaches from other niches begin to feel uncomfortable. They will usually take one of three routes. The coach will: (1) do their best to "play the part" of the career expert; or (2) avoid the "career conversation" altogether; or (3) refer their client to another practitioner whom they hope knows more about career issues than they do.
Many coaches aren't even familiar enough with career coaching to know what it offers or how it differs from their own coaching discipline. Ford will address the following questions, as well as many other relevant questions during his presentation.
